About us – Nzbettinglaw
The statute comes before the odds at Nzbettinglaw, which reads New Zealand betting law and reports what it says. Bets are not taken, tips are not sold and no return is promised; a wager guaranteed to win does not exist.

Checking lawful status
A register of licensed bookmakers cannot be consulted in New Zealand, because the field has a single lawful provider. TAB NZ, through TAB and Betcha, has alone been allowed to offer racing and sports betting to people in New Zealand since 28 June 2025. The check therefore goes to the Department of Internal Affairs and to the Racing Industry Act 2020 as amended by the Racing Industry Amendment Act 2025. According to the Department, an overseas company offering these bets is breaking the law, and the same sources show the law is aimed at the operator and not the punter. A ranking position is never a licence.
Use of sources
Statutes and public-body publications supply the legal facts; the provider’s own terms, help pages and footers supply facts about the provider. As odds and promotions move quickly, a figure is given with the time and place it applied. Where sources end, the text uses words and does not invent a number.
Intended audience
Adults in New Zealand are who the pages are for, as TAB NZ betting begins at 18. They are not legal or tax advice. Where betting is taking more space than planned, the Gambling Helpline and Safer Gambling Aotearoa are available.
